June 2007

  • Richard "Dickie" Pratt 1932-2007 - A tribute to the President of the National Philatelic Society who sadly died on 17th February 2007.
     

  • A Value for Money Cover  - Inspired by the recent Social Philately Seminar organised by the National Philatelic Society, David Alford looks at the different types of collection in which his standard aerogramme from Fiji might be placed.

  • Croatia 1941-45 Tony Bosworth, FRPSL describes the history, postal services, stamps and postal history of World War II Croatia.

  • Plating the Fiji Times Express Stamps  - David Alford looks at the first stamps to be used in the Pacific islands of Fiji.
     

  • Checklist of Articles in the British Philatelic Press - our twice yearly listing covers the period July - December 2006.

August 2007

  • Odd Jottings - Wild about Wildings - some musings from "Old Codger"
     

  • Sugar in our Daily Lives  - The word "sugar" is of ancient origin and David C Hunter looks at its history and many forms as reflected in the stamp album.

  • Social Philately and Perfins - The phrase "social philately" may be relatively new but Dave Hill explains how the perfin collector has been involved with this for over 50 years as he/she sought more inform on the firm or organisation behind those perforated initials. 

  • The Stamps of the Leeward Islands - A View from the Archives - Part 1 - Peter Mellor traces the unusual arrangements in the Leeward Islands where these islands used "federal" and "presidential" stamps side by side for over fifty years . 
     

  • Sydney  - Christine Earle's Display given to the Society on the 12 May and Brian Rodgers's Display of British Honduras given on 9 June are both described in illustrated accounts by Mike Goodman.

    PLUS - News, a the reports presented by the Acting President and Officers of the Society at the 108th Annual General Meeting of the National Philatelic Society held on 14th July 2007and coverage of the Library Open Day held on 28th June 2007.
