June 2006

  • Cash Machine Stamps - "You can bank by mail, why not mail by bank" - Glenn Morgan tells the story of the development of the sale of stamps through cash machines. The introduction in the USA is described with details of developments elsewhere and a listing of stamps so issued. 

  • Checklist of Articles in the British Philatelic Press - our twice yearly listing covers the period July - December 2005.

  • Hong Kong Centenary Issue 1941 - Ron Rakusen tells the story about the designs of the Hong Kong Centenary Issue and the artists responsible for the designs.  

  • Just One of the "Famous 50" - Alan Randall Jones looks at one of the "famous Five" - the US Navy Destroyer acquired by the Royal Navy under "Lend Lease" in 1940. He focuses on one of these ships 
    USS Tillman and its on board US Post Offices, not least because our late editor, Michael Furnell, later served on the ship when it had become HMS Wells.

  • Great Britain King George V - some lesser known aspects of the 1912 "Mackennal" issues are contained in this report of the Display given to the June Meeting of the National Philatelic Society by Alan Moorcroft, FRPSL.  

  • The William Parmenter Bequest - our Librarian, Glenn Morgan, pays tribute to Bill Parmenter who recently bequeathed his philatelic literature collection of almost 2,000 items to the National Philatelic society library

  • Out and About with Members - WASHINGTON 2006 - Reports on the WASHINGTON 2006 exhibition from Chris Oliver and UK Commissioner, Brian Sole.  

  • Thematica 2006 - a report on Thematica held on 24 & 25 June 2006

  • Guide to Album Pages - some further thoughts following David Beech's article on conservation in the April 2006 edition of Stamp Lover.

  • Klagenfurt Symposium for Traditional Philately - the paper on the future of traditional philately prsented by Jussi Torri, Chairman of the FIP Traditional Commission.

  • Books for Church and Sunday School as Ordered in 1894-95 - Bernard Towler gives us a glimpse of the work of the Church of England book Depot in Sydney, through five New South Wales Letter Cards he acquired some years ago. 

  • The 1895 Fiji Letter Card - David Alford compares the the NSW Letter card described above with the Fiji version of the same card.

  • Ex-Lloyd Austiaco SS Marquis Bucqueham - Keith Tranmer looks at the Austrian-Lloyd Steamship Company and a rare cover from this ship.
