The Postage Stamps of Clipperton Island by Ian Nutley who tells us about ten stamps issued by the Oceanic Phosphate Company for the use of its employees in their phosphate business on Clipperton Island, located about 1800 miles from San Francisco. The stamps were intended for use on mail between the island and San Francisco and as an advertisement for the island’s products. However it is extremely unlikely that the proposed mail service was ever established.
