The Stamp Active Network (previously National Youth Stamp Committee) is an independent body of volunteers that seeks to encourage youth philately in the UK, supported by the Association of British Philatelic Societies.

It is best known for the organisation of the annual British Youth Stamp Championships, currently supported by H. W. Wood Ltd. and held annually at Autumn Stampex, until 2005. Details of the 2008 Championships will be available from www.planetstamp.co.uk when available.

  Youth Officers Conference

One of the most recent introductions is the running of regular Youth Officers Conferences.

These serve to share best practice and discusses some of the issues facing Youth Officers in their regions.

Just some Activities

In recent years the scope of the group's activities has been extended to co-ordinate a wider range of initiatives.

Workshops - Sessions are held to help the most gifted young collectors prepare for International competitions. There are seminars for Youth Judges.

Stamp Active - A programme of activities to enliven stamp club meetings in a school or other organised young persons club. Subscribers receive an extensive folder packed with ideas which have been successfully tried and tested with young people across the country. Every three months an update pack is sent, offering new ideas and keeping members abreast of what is happening in the world of youth philately. Want to know more ? Write to Stamp Active Network, 3 Longfellow Road, Banbury, Oxon OX16 9LB.

Like to Compete ? -  Most youngsters like to compete, and they can do so by showing their stamp collections to others. As a start, they can enter the Stamp Active Competition. All that is needed is 4, 8 or 16 pages from their collection. The pages should form a coherent display, and they could win a bronze, silver or even a gold award. Their exhibits will be shown in public, at a major stamp exhibition in the United Kingdom. If they do well, they can enter the British Youth Stamp Championships. Requiring a higher standard of display, the prizes are medals, with cups being presented to the best in each age group. There is also the chance to become British Youth Stamp Champion. Many of our Champions go on to represent Great Britain at International Stamp Exhibitions, held around the world.
