What is the NATIONAL
PHILATELIC SOCIETY?
- One of the largest
general philatelic societies in Great Britain whose
members are drawn from throughout the UK and Overseas
- The Society is based
at the British Philatelic Centre at 107 Charterhouse
Street, London EC1 and the Saturday Monthly Meetings
Meetings are held there. The
Centre also houses the National PS Library which is open
on Saturdays when meetings are held and is normally
open from 11 a.m. – 4.15 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays
and Thursdays. It is also open
on most other Saturdays, although visitors
are advised to telephone 020 7490 9610 beforehand
to check to avoid disappointment.
- The Centre is easily
accessible by Underground (Farringdon or Barbican
- Circle, Hammersmith or Metropolitan lines), train
(Farringdon -Thameslink) or bus (Where to find us)
- The Society also
serves a worldwide membership and from the Centre
it provides facilities and services, as described
below, to those Members located further afield
- The National PS has celebrated
its Centenary, having been founded by famous stamp
collector and philatelic writer Fred J Melville
as the Junior Philatelic Society in 1899
